Most boilers have a lifespan of 10–15 years. If yours frequently needs repairs, shows signs of leaks or inefficiency, or is older than 15 years, replacement may offer better value and peace of mind.
An annual service by a Gas Safe engineer is strongly recommended. It helps maintain efficiency, extends the boiler’s lifespan, keeps warranties valid, and ensures safe operation.
A typical service involves a visual inspection, component checks, cleaning and performance tests. This includes gas pressure and flow, flue combustion, seals, safety devices, condensate traps and more.
You can check boiler pressure (ideal range: 1–1.5 bar), bleed radiators and lag exposed pipes to reduce heat loss and prevent freezing. These simple steps will help ensure the smooth running of your boiler all year round.
Only a Gas Safe registered engineer may legally install, maintain, or service gas boilers in the UK—this ensures safety and compliance with regulations.
Servicing your boiler can catch small issues before they escalate, ensuring safer operation, better efficiency, and potentially saving hundreds—or even thousands—on repairs or premature replacement.
